Visits & Stays
Guest Student Stays
The City Center Guest Student Program offers a short-term residency opportunity of two to six weeks for those interested in beginning or continuing their Zen practice within the support of community. Guest students participate in the daily life of City Center, which includes zazen (sitting meditation), services (sutra chanting), work (frequently of a physical nature), and meals.
San Francisco Zen Center offers seven charming guest rooms for short-term stays at the corner of Page and Laguna.
Work Practice Apprenticeship
To better accomplish our mission, “to express, make accessible, and embody the wisdom and compassion of the Buddha,” the San Francisco Zen Center has developed the Work Practice Apprenticeship (WPA) Program for Zen students who are ready to enter a two-year, entry-level Zen training program.
The City Center Resident Training Program is designed to support Zen students to sit
zazen, practice intimately with each other and with the bodhisattva precepts, and gain a thorough
understanding of what it is to take refuge in Buddha, Dharma and Sangha.
