with Erin Merk
Zen training encourages our moment-by-moment actions of body, speech and mind to flow from a consistent and sincere practice of zazen
, or sitting meditation. For many practitioners, zazen feels so physically challenging that it’s hard to imagine describing the practice as a “dharma gate of repose and bliss.” How can we find our own true body-and-mind place of zazen, informed but not limited by our relationship to Dogen’s instructions? How can we cultivate an attitude of patient, gentle and infinitely curious investigation when it comes to how we carry ourselves? Exploring a variety of perspectives on posture through texts, visual tools and our own present-moment attunement, we will engage in a series of weekly body-mind inquiries, including at-home explorations, to invite sensitivity and awaken the mysterious and inconceivable living experience of harmonious posture.
Six-week class series fee:
$90; $81 current SFZC members; $72 limited income.
