with Kyoshin Wendy Lewis
Four Thursdays, May 22 - June 12, 2014
7:30 - 9 pm The Heart Sutra,
chanted daily in Zen Center’s three locations, is a Mahayana wisdom (prajnaparamita) teaching dating from about the 5th century CE. The sutra proposes that Buddhist doctrine is valid only in the context of emptiness. It encapsulates several basic Buddhist teachings, all of which it both affirms (through including them) and negates. In this class, we will examine these teachings and how interpreting them in the context of emptiness both refreshes and deepens our understanding and application of them. All levels of practitioners are welcome.
The text for the class is The Heart of the Universe: Exploring the Heart Sutra
by Mu Soeng. It should be available in the bookstore and is available through Amazon
