Sesshin means to collect the heart-mind. Traditional Soto Zen meditation retreats include oryoki meals, daily dharma talks, sitting and walking meditation, and private interviews with senior teachers.

Wednesday, June 18: Evening orientation for sesshin
  • Oryoki instruction 5 pm
  • Dinner 6:30 pm
  • Orientation for all participants 7:30 pm
Meals are included in the cost of sesshin. However, to receive your meals, you will need an oryoki set. You may bring your own or rent an oryoki set for the duration of sesshin. If you would like to rent oryoki please add the rent oryoki set fee to your reservation. To purchase your own oryoki set, contact the City Center Ino by email (ccino@sfzc.org).

Fees: $180; $162 current members; $144 limited income. Some partial scholarships available. (About Registration, Scholarships and Cancellations.)

Optional overnight accommodations:

About Registration, Scholarships, and Cancellations

Shosan Victoria Austin
Shosan Victoria Austin began practicing both Zen and yoga in 1971. In the Soto Zen tradition, she is entrusted as a Dharma heir in the lineage of Shunryu Suzuki, an international priest of the Soto School, and a Dharma teacher at San Francisco Zen Center. She trained in the U.S., in India, and in Japan. In the Iyengar tradition, she is certified as an Intermediate teacher.

Tokuden Shinki Mark Lancaster
Tokuden Shinki Mark Lancaster has been practicing at San Francisco Zen Center since 1988. Mark was Shuso in 1997, ordained by Michael Wenger in 2002 and received Dharma Transmission from Michael Wenger in 2006. He is currently the Director of People Development.
