About Touching the Earth Sit-a-Thon

Sunday, April 21,
9am-5pm City Center,
300 Page Street, San Francisco
Closing and Reception 5pm

During this quiet day of sitting in community, we will provide deep support for San Francisco Zen Center’s three unique places of refuge and engagement: City Center, Tassajara and Green Gulch Farm.

The funds we raise will contribute to the food we serve, the staff that cooks it, the gardens and repairs on our 90-year-old Julia Morgan building in the city. It will benefit the farm at Green Gulch, the baths at Tassajara and maintain housing and retreat spaces. These funds will support programs that welcome hundreds of people to our centers every week – including people new to practice, long time community members, young urban dwellers, children and families. The Sit-A-Thon will also enable our centers to provide outreach to people who are homeless, in recovery and incarcerated.

Our Goal is $50,000 (that means 125 Sitters with 20 sponsors each pledging $20).

Support the Sit-a-Thon

There is a way for everyone to participate

Sit

Each participant of the Sit-A-Thon will create a schedule that they can commit to. We will each pace ourselves, taking breaks when needed. Snacks and beverages will be provided. There will be an area for yoga and quiet space in the courtyard for walking meditation or taking a break.

If you can’t be here for the whole time, commit to what part of it you can and make sure that those sponsoring you understand that commitment. You will do this on your profile page.

Out of the area? We need everyone in the SFZC community, far and wide, to join in this effort! Sit on your own or gather with dharma friends and bring the Buddha Hall to your living room or sitting group via Live Stream. You can also sponsor a sitter or donate to the event.

Create a profile and then reach out to your family and friends to support you in something that means a lot to you. Our online system will lead you through the process.

Sit on the 21st

April 21st, Sunday
9am-5pm
City Center
300 Page Street, San Francisco

Each participant will pace themselves, taking breaks when needed. We ask those joining us at City Center to bring a bag lunch and enjoy it at the time that you wish. There are many locations at City Center, such as one of the courtyards or the dining room, where you can eat lunch or take breaks throughout the day.

Snacks and beverages will be provided. At 5pm we will come together for a closing followed by a reception of light fare catered by Greens restaurant.

The main courtyard may be used for walking meditation or for taking a break.  The back of the dining room will be set up as a yoga/stretching area.

If you plan to join the Sit-A-Thon remotely via Live Stream we encourage you to maintain the same spirit of quiet community and deep support.
