Six-day Sesshin
led by Abbess Kiku Christina Lehnherr and Lay Entrusted Teacher Dainin Marsha Angus

Sesshin means to collect the heart-mind. Traditional Soto Zen meditation retreat includes oryoki meals, daily Dharma talks, sitting and walking meditation, and private interviews with senior teachers.

The sesshin will be accessible to people with a wide range of physical abilities.

Saturday, March 23: Evening orientation for sesshin
  • Oryoki instruction 5:00 pm
  • Dinner 6:30 pm
  • Orientation for all participants 7:30 pm
Meals are included in the cost of sesshin. However, to receive your meals, you will need an oryoki set. You may bring your own or rent an oryoki set for the duration of sesshin. If you would like to rent oryoki please add the rent oryoki set fee to your reservation. To purchase your own oryoki set, contact the City Center Ino by email.

Fees: $360; $324 current members; $288 limited income.

Optional overnight accommodations:
$25 per night, shared room. For accommodations, contact the shika (guest manager) at 415.354.0395 or by email.

City Center Abiding Abbess Kiku Christina Lehnherr
Kiku Christina Lehnherr became City Center Abbess in February 2012. She has degrees in physical therapy and Clinical Psychology and practiced both in Switzerland. Ordained as a priest by Tenshin Reb Anderson in 1993, she received Dharma Transmission from Tenshin Reb Anderson in 2005. From 2003 to 2006 she served as Head of Practice (Tanto) at City Center. Between 2006 and 2012, Christina lived in Marin where she continued to support sitting groups and students as a non-residential teacher.

Dainin Marsha Angus
Dainin Marsha Angus received Jukai in 1979, was shuso at City Center in 2007 and was given Lay Entrustment by Dairyu Michael Wenger in 2010. She is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with a private practice in Mill Valley since 1975. She leads three meditation groups in the Bay Area.
