with Kyoshin Wendy Lewis
Tuesdays, 7:30 - 9 pm
October 8, 22, 29, and November 5, 12, 19, 2013
On Fridays at City Center, the liturgy for morning service is the recitation of the Diamond Sutra
). The members of the assembly open the sutra at random and read approximately three pages of the text. The intention is to recite the entire sutra in the short time of service. In this course, we will study the historic role the Diamond Sutra
has had in the Zen tradition and examine the teachings it presents.
The text for this class will be The Diamond Sutra: Transforming the Way We Perceive the World
by Mu Soeng. This is a PDF version (8½X14) of the sutra as it is chanted at Zen Center
A basic familiarity with the concept of emptiness and some years of meditation practice will make this class more accessible, but all are welcome to attend.
