Meditation Instruction and Talk on Wisdom from the Zen Perspective

Join the Wisdom 2.0 and the San Francisco Zen Center communities at SFZC City Center for these free, educational affiliated events during Wisdom Week 2014.

Awakening Wisdom in the Midst of Our Lives
February 12, 2014 | 7:30-8:30pm
Wisdom demands a new orientation of science and technology toward the organic, the gentle, the elegant and beautiful. —E. F. Schumacher, Small Is Beautiful: Economics as if People Mattered

Join San Francisco Zen Center for a dharma talk by Urban Temple Dharma Teacher Ryushin Paul Haller. The former Abbot of SFZC will speak to how the practice of Zen and zazen (sitting meditation) opens us to wisdom and calls forth integrity, creativity and courage as we meet and respond to the circumstances of everyday life. Wisdom, as expressed in the timeless realization of the mystic traditions such as Zen Buddhism, is constantly challenged to offer an appropriate response to the conditions of the present time. Through this creative functioning the "next generation" of wisdom comes forth. All are welcome. (Free; no registration required.)

Discover Zen Meditation (Zazen)
February 10-13, 2014 | 5:30-6:30 PM (offered 4x during Wisdom Week )

Interested in exploring Zen meditation? These instruction sessions will familiarize participants with the bare bones of “zazen” or sitting meditation practice. The Zen teachers providing instruction will emphasize different elements of the basic teachings. You are invited to attend just one or all of these four introductory sessions offered at a special afternoon time during Wisdom Week. You’re also invited to join the weekly instruction offered regularly on Saturday mornings at 8:40 am. All are welcome. (Free; no registration for zazen instruction is required.)
